23x over Full HD, same quality

Full HD, the standard on TV's, measures 1920 x 1080 (2.073.600). Fran 8K delivers 7920 x 6024 pixels makes a total of 47.710.080 Pixels (47.7 MP), or in other words, 23x more resolution than Full HD.

From above pictures, left is the zoom of right one. You can read a small palm size paper letter at a 50 meters of distance.

Dual ISO*

Dual ISO to extend HDR. Use dual exposure, to take a same instant shoots in 2 different ISO, to create a higher dynamic range raw file.

Global Shutter

Global shutter deliver instant frame readout, this means images are captured at once at the same time, unlike rolling shutter where on sensor is read from one side to the other with some delay.

Depth of Field

Great DOF is usually reach with a full frame sensor, using proper lenses, scene and distance. Fran sensor is larger than a FF or VV, so easy to achieve unbelievable organical DOF. Any suject.

Bigger than VV

Fran sensor is bigger than VistaVision, has an area of 1.456 inches by 1.062 inches (999 mm2 - 37 x 27 mm). VistaVision aperture is 1.485 inches (37.72 mm) by 0.981 inches (24.92 mm). EF or PL mount.

4:3   >   to 2.39:1

Just quote what Arri said about their Alexa's (all having 4:3 sensors) "Shooting with anamorphic lenses for 2.39:1 widescreen distribution, a process often referred to as CinemaScope (trademark 20th Century Fox), results in unique images that have long been appreciated by cinematographers, directors and the viewing public alike. The fundamentals of the process apply to digital acquisition in exactly the same way as they always have done to film, so long as one has a sensor that is the size and shape of a film frame (4:3)"

Easily Effect

Being a 4:3 sensor (37 x 27mm), the use of Anamorphic lenses on Fran allows for organical effects like Bokeh and Lens flares.


Depending lense coverage, achieve organic (non emulated) Vignetting effect using many super35mm lenses. For entire coverage use full frame lenses.

Custom res.

From 720x480 up to 7920x6024. There is space for user definable resolutions.
Say to put 2 or 3 cars in a 8K 4:3 8000x6000 scene while save space and time, just do it instead of 3 clips of 8x6.

Internal Downsampling

Fran have variable resolutions (8k, 4k, 2k) that does NOT crop the sensor; for example, 8k at 14mm is 14mm in 4k too. No cropped. Internal downsampling is available for some resolutions.

Expansion modules

Fran has been designed to be able to expand its capabilities. Each side of the camera have a dock space for modules that will be developed for the camera. Currently we are working for a I/O module (with xlr audio in/outs and SDI out).


Fran records onto removable SSD M.2 certified media. 1 TB and 2TB drives are available for Fran.

Easy Simple Interface

3 buttons. Easy GUI

Dedicated center button for instant REC. Two directional buttons, and long press on center button to access menu and set / configure the camera, which state can be save / load to / from SD.
For users who want buttons on side, a side controller interface will be developed on 2019.

Assist tools

Focus Assist

With this simple tool, you will see things on focus with some lines around it. In above picture you can see the face and middle center hair is on focus while hair on the back is out of focus.

False Color, Histogram

False color and Histogram are bundle tools inside the camera.


Realtime on camera optional stabilization.

Camera pans, parallax, on zooming, run and gun.

Ideal to complement a gymbal, altough with this option might not need on some scene.



RAW is on Fran to give you the desired output.

While all preview is done at full color spectre, recording is done at pure Raw, either Bayer (no color info applied) or Debayered (color info applied) to give the max possibilities, applying LUT, etc.
All non debayered clips (sequence of images) can be set to transcode after recorded, to Debayered files at a lossless compression ratio of 2:1 (png, dng).

Automatically Backup

Plug a USB / ThunderBolt unit.
Anytime you connnect a drive all the media will be backup, you can set to move or copy file with or without transcoding to either 2:1 debayer raw or, say after a recording session either Avid DNxHD/xHR or Prores, from Camera to your Drive.
Then you can unplug the drive and connect to your favorite computer.

To suit specific needs

Fran can be reprogrammed to suit many needs. Estabilization is a featured provided by OpenCv arquitecture. Third parties or c++ developers can develop plugins for Fran. The programmable arquitecture option allows users to use their own software, or write new one based on Fran default software.
The programmable arquitecture option includes the stabilization and a few examples of object detection, as well as documentation in order on how to program the camera.

Say you want to count how many stars are in a given live scene, or how many cars pass the goal, or to identify the flights or boats, or something else. Objects or even persons can be detected by setting things like: shape, form, geometry, color, speed, etc .. and then you can program actions based on detected objects in scene, like zoom to, or call a webservice via ethernet with or without parameters depending on object detected, speed, etc..
